The Forbidden Fruit Tastes the Sweetest

This is definitely the movie that I am most excited to write about on here. If you haven't heard of the Twilight series, i'm sorry to say, but you must be living under a rock.

Here's a little plot synopsis:

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands — and he hasn’t aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he’s immortal. But he doesn’t have fangs, and he doesn’t drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for — a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward and Bella do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?

I have never read a book and then seen the movie, so it will be interesting to see how the characters are interpreted onto the big screen and what was changed or not included from the book.

The Twilight series has a huge following which will result in a huge opening for the movie. Over the next few years, we will definitely be seeing the other 3 books come to theaters.

Role Models

The comedy, Role Models (directed by David Wain), hits theaters this Friday, November 7th.

I have seen a bunch of commercials for this movie and it looks pretty funny to me, so I wanted to share it with you all!

Here is a little plot summary:
Two irresponsible energy drink salesmen, Wheeler (Seann William Scott) and Danny (Paul Rudd), drank too many Minotaur energy drinks and trashed their company truck. There punishment? 150 hours in a community mentorship watching trouble-maker kids instead of jail. Danny is assigned to help bashful, role-playing geek Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, yes that is Mclovin') and Wheeler is assigned to help foul-mouthed fifth-grader Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson). The boys go through many interesting situations, but Danny and Wheeler can't give up on Augie and Ronnie, or they will be sent to jail.

I read a few reviews and for the most part they said the movie was funny because of the awkward situations between the kids, and Scott and Rudd. One review said that Christopher Mintz-Plasse's character, Augie, "runs away with the movie" and by the end it is mostly focused on him, which doesn't surprise me since I think he did a great job in Superbad.

I'm excited to see this movie and hopefully get some laughs out of it, which I think I will.

'Role Models' Trailer Rated R

So, I just saw High School Musical: Senior Year, and I actually really liked it! It was cute and entertaining. Yes, it was really corny, to the point where I was laughing at the corniness, but that is what Disney movies are about. The actors in the movie are extremely talented in singing and dancing which makes it enjoyable to watch. The plot was also relatable to anyone watching it, well except maybe really young kids. It reminded me of graduating from high school, saying goodbye to friends and going off to college, which is a bittersweet experience. Parents can relate to it as well in that they try to guide their kids in the direction they believe they should go, but their kids decisions are ultimately theirs. I definitely think that Disney upped their game on this one since it was in theaters and the switch to the big screen is paying off (literally) since the movie premiered at number one.

Just a few things that bothered me:

• Some outfits and dance moves were a little inappropriate for the target age groupTroy and
• Gabriella were just way too into each other for a Disney movie, you can tell they are a couple off screen
• Some parts/songs reminded me of Rent and Greece
• They supposedly cut a scene from the movie where Zac Efron dances and sings in the shower, which was probably a good move, but it would have been nice! Stills (seen below) of the scene were sold on eBay.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this movie, if you like this sort of thing, or even if you don't...Zac Efron is easy on the eyes. :)

It's Time to Turn It Up, Game On!

High School Musical 3: Senior Year premieres in theaters tomorrow, October 24th. I have seen the first two, so of course I have to see the third.
Ha Ha yes, I know what you are thinking. "How lame"...but that's OK, I know it's lame.

Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) are back for their senior year, but realize that after graduation they will be separated come Fall when they attend different colleges. To express their hopes and fears about the future, they join with their friends to produce a spring musical and make the best of their senior year together. Of course there is a big basketball game and prom mixed in there as well.

The first two installments were released on the Disney Channel, but they are releasing this one in theaters, meaning a bigger budget and a lot more profit.

From the preview, this movie looks a little corny, but it is a Disney movie and a musical, it is going to be corny. It will be interesting to see how much more mature this one is compared to the others, since they are seniors in high school. I also wonder if this will be the last in the series. I think it should be. These actors need to move on to different roles, but we will have to see if the whole acting thing is actually going to work out for them outside of Disney.

I will let you know what I think after I check it out!

I am a Bad Person

I guess i'm not that bad, but I didn't have anytime to go see W. and I feel bad about it. It isn't playing here in Fredonia, of course, so when I have the chance I will have to drive somewhere and see it. Soon hopefully.

But,
I did read some reviews online.

Entertainment Weekly gave the movie a C+, mainly because it was not a fair and balanced biography like it was made out to be. The movie focuses on Bush's fumbles and the son that struggled to win approval of his father. It gives the audience a glimpse into his younger years where he made many mistakes, and his presidency, where he made many mistakes, but it fails to make the connection between the two. On the other hand the review said, "The intrepid one is the outstanding Josh Brolin, who does such a phenomenal job in the title role that he carries every scene he's in to a place of subtlety and integrity...nailing Bush's posture and gestures without stooping to easy mannerism, conveying the contradictions of a polarizing president with real generosity." The author gave Brolin an A, so he must have played Bush pretty well. Too bad that the rest of the movie doesn't sound too good, but I will still have to make the trip to see for myself.

I couldn't find anything on the President's reaction, which I didn't think I would, but I found a reaction from his brother, Florida Governor Jeb Bush. He said, "The Oedipal rivalry is high-grade, unadulterated hooey", meaning that the movie is not portraying his brother accurately (in plain English). He said that neither the writer nor director called to fact check any part they were including in the movie...interesting.

W.

In theaters October 17th, W. portrays the life of George W. Bush. Director Oliver Stone gives us a glimpse of Bush's eventful life, including how he met his wife, found his faith, and the days leading up to the Iraq invasion.

With a release date three weeks before the Presidential election, it is sure to remind us what we have been through and what we are moving on from. Stone has said that is is a "fair, true portrait of the man", but others have said that he is trying to sway November's election.

Josh Brolin plays George W. Bush, and I could not find anywhere online how he played him in the film. With the makeup and hair he resembles Bush and from the trailer it sounds like he has the accent down, but we will have to wait and see on his performance.

I think it will be interesting to see Bush's life before he became president because we don't hear much about their lives before they become president. I would also like to hear Bush's reaction to the movie and how accurately he was portrayed.

I hope to get to the movies to see W. when it comes out. (This blog is forcing me to go see movies, I like it!) I will also do more research on Brolin's portrayal and Bush's reaction.



'W.' Trailer

Disappointed

So I saw Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist last night.

Sadly enough, I feel like I wasted $10 and an hour and a half. I think I had high expectations for the movie since I really like Michael Cera, and I was disappointed. I felt like I was waiting for the movie to get good, but it never did. I did appreciate that the 2 main characters (Nick and Norah) did not drink, which is usually the case, but of course there had to be the obnoxious drunk friend, who did some pretty stupid, but entertaining things. The whole movie revolves around the search for the band, Where's Fluffy?, and Norah's drunk friend, and of course it has a happy ending. The movie is relatable; young people looking for entertainment and maybe meeting that certain someone. The music did not stick out to me either, but it fit well with the plot. All in all, I would not recommend it.

"will you be my boyfriend for 5 minutes?"

"Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist", which is based on a novel, has caught my eye on the TV previews lately. Directed by Peter Sollett and starring Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad), Kat Dennings (The 40 Year Old Virgin) and many others, it is set to be an off comedy.

Here is a quick plot summary from comingsoon.net, in case you don't know anything about the movie:

"It's been three weeks, two days, and 23 hours since Tris broke up with Nick (Michael Cera). And now here she is at his gig, with a new guy. How could she have moved on so fast? Nick, in a desperate attempt to show her he's moved on too, turns to the girl next to him and asks her to be his five-minute girlfriend. This begins the night of Nick, Norah (Kat Dennings) and Manhattan. The night of stripping nuns, hotel ice rooms, Russian food, psychotic ex-boyfriends and lovingly trashy ex-girlfriends. It's the night of Julio and Salvatore. The night of holding hands and writing songs and singing in the rain. It's a night they'll never forget."

Michael Cera does such a good job playing that awkward, late teenager, early 20something. Superbad and Juno were huge among that age group and I give the credit to him. The writers have the humor down and he can act it even better.

I am also excited for the soundtrack. The soundtrack itself has its own myspace page. It features Vampire Weekend, We Are Scientists, and many others. Most of them being indie bands, the movie will get them a lot of playing time.

On the other hand, I don't feel like the movie has been promoted very much compared to others, and it comes out next Friday (October 3rd). I have only seen the preview on TV a few times, some ads in magazines, nothing on facebook, or any ads on other websites. I don't have a myspace, but it looks like they are doing some promotion on there, like I said, the soundtrack has its own page. Hopefully it will generate word-of-mouth buzz once it opens in theaters.

Other bloggers and critics are giving it a B+, but I will be checking out the movie when it comes out October 3rd and will write back on what I think about it! In the mean time, tell me what you are thinking about "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist".
